Marriage Licenses

obtaining a marriage license

For a Marriage License please contact our office first at (270) 887-4107 ext. 4, so that we can set up an appointment time for you to come in.  When you call to set up the appointment we ask that you know the date of marriage and who will be performing your ceremony so that we can set an appropriate date and time for you to come in.
As of now, we do not have anyone to perform marriage ceremonies, so you need to make sure you do have someone who can perform the ceremony for you.
Once you have set up the appointment the following steps are next:
  • Submit your marriage license application online at least 24 hours before your appointment time.
  • MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATION
  • Call the day before your appointment to make sure your application was submitted and did go through.
  • Show up for your appointment with your driver's license (we can not take Military ID's) and $50.00 cash, check, or money order.  Please make checks or money orders payable to:  Christian County Clerk.
Our office is located upstairs you can either come up the elevator or take the steps at the front of the courthouse (Main St., side).  We only need the couple getting the marriage license to be here on the appointment day.

WHO CAN ISSUE A MARRIAGE LICENSE and how long it is valid

A Kentucky marriage license can be issued by any County Clerk's office in Kentucky, regardless of what county in Kentucky  you are getting married in. The couple must be present to apply for the license.  The marriage ceremony must take place in the state of KENTUCKY, within 30 days of purchasing the marriage license (counting the actual day of purchase).  If this does not happen then the license will be invalid and you will have to purchase another license.
After your marriage is performed you must return the completed Marriage License to the County Clerk's office (where license was purchased), within 30 days of the marriage ceremony, so that it can be recorded and certified copies can be given to you (click HERE for an example of a completed marriage license).
This is a non-refundable fee.
