Road Department

County roads are public roads which have been accepted by the fiscal court and maintained by the county as a part of the county road system. Included in this system are the necessary bridges, culverts, drains, ditches, waterways, embankments and retaining walls (KRS 178.010).  No county road may be established, be discontinued, or have its location changed unless due notice has been given under the provisions of KRS Chapter 178.   Notices must be published pursuant to KRS 424, by the county road engineer (KRS 178.050).  If the fiscal court does not provide for a county road engineer, the county judge/executive, with the consent of the fiscal court, will appoint a county road supervisor to perform his duties.
There are approximately 500 miles of roads in the Christian County road program.   These roads are comprised of approximately 340 miles blacktop and 160 miles gravel.   There are close to 75 bridges crossing the rivers, creeks and streams that run through the county that must be maintained along with the roads.

The Christian County Road Department consists of 15 employees under the supervision of Paul Finley, the county’s road supervisor.  Hours are 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. during the months of October through April, and from 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., May through September.
