Public Comments

Under Public Law, 88-578, citizens are afforded the opportunity to express their views concerning the recreational needs of the community.  Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the Christian County Fiscal Court intends to apply for federal grant funding and will be accepting public comments on the following projects in lieu of a public meeting:
The County, on behalf of the Pennyrile Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area Council, intends to apply for approximately $25,000 in Land and Water Conservation Fund grant funding to pursue improvements at the Jeffers Bend Environmental Center and Botanical Gardens. Planned improvements include the construction of a 30’x60’ covered pavilion to provide an outdoor space to hold educational seminars, classes and events.

The County, on behalf of the Pennyrile Forest State Park, intends to apply for up to $250,000 in Land and Water Conservation Fund grant funding to pursue improvements at the Pennyrile Forest State Park.  Planned improvements include the development of additional camping sites adjacent to the existing campground located within the park.

The Pennyrile Area Development District (PADD) office in Hopkinsville is assisting with the development of both projects.
Citizens with significant supporting or opposing views on either project are invited to submit their opinions in writing by Friday, May 8, 2020, to: Christian County Fiscal Court, 515 Weber Street, Hopkinsville, KY 42240; or to the Office of Federal Grants, Kentucky Department for Local Government, 100 Airport Road, 3rd Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601.

E-mail comments may be submitted to [email protected]. For more information concerning these projects, contact the Pennyrile Area Development District via the email above or by phone at 270-886-8494.
